Is a WES evaluation the same as an IEE evaluation?

WES is the corporate abbreviation for World Education Services, a credential evaluation company with headquarters in New York, NY. IEE is the corporate abbreviation for International Education Evaluations, a credential evaluation company with headquarters in Charlotte, NC. Both companies are members of NACES (National Association for Credential Evaluation Services) an organization designed to provide high quality evaluation services to the public for education, immigration, licensure, and employment purposes.

Many people use the term “WES evaluation” to refer to a credential evaluation because WES is the largest and probably most well known evaluation service company in the United States. Only World Education Services (WES) can issue a “WES report”. IEE provides credential evaluation services as well, and to those who most commonly refer IEE’s services tell their students to get an IEE report, rather than what it really is; a “Foreign Credential Evaluation”.

Both companies are independent and make their own recommendations for US equivalent education. So if you are looking for a quick answer, NO they aren’t the same. But if you are reading this article; you aren’t the kind of person looking for a “quick answer”. You want to know the facts so that you can make an informed decision in choosing a credential evaluation company that will best suit your needs.

Simply put, there isn’t a “one size fits all” in credential evaluations. While some individuals may prefer an IEE evaluation because of our standards and equivalencies, an institution may decide not to accept IEE evaluations for the same reason. The same holds true for WES evaluations. For example: there is only one evaluation company whose evaluations are accepted for NAIA athletics in the US; and it isn’t WES or IEE. If you are planning to attend an NAIA school and play sports, you should get an evaluation from InCred.

While there isn’t space on this website to articulate all the similarities or differences between IEE and WES evaluations, it is worth noting that IEE has recently updated it’s policy concerning the equivalencies for 3-year India degrees using a Benchmarking Method rather than strict Year-Counting which had traditionally ruled the Industry.

It should be noted that the IEE policy to Indian 3-year degrees will allow more Indian graduates to receive a U.S. bachelor degree equivalency, because it doesn’t discriminate against those with lower grades (placement in the second or third class).
